About Us

     The year was 1994. The place was Southwest Colorado Springs. People began praying for a powerful presence through an evangelical church in that area of town. They were unaware of God's move on a couple in Nashville, Tennessee, but God was orchestrating. Around that same time, over 100 acres of land went up for sale in that same area. In the same year, 1994, in Nashville, Tennessee,  an analytical biochemist at Vanderbilt named Mark Phillips, and wife Angela were being called into the ministry.

     They sell a large portion of everything they own and move with their three young children to Oxford, England, where Mark would earn a Graduate Diploma in Theology from Oxford University. They were unaware of what was happening in southwest Colorado Springs, but God was orchestrating. Through a series of events the Phillips ended up there, as Mark was finishing courses at a local seminary, and completing his pastoral internship at Woodmen Valley Chapel. After he completed his studies and internship, Mark and Angela joined five families in late summer of 1999 to pray. It was about a vision for a relevant church that would provide a safe environment where the unchurched would be comfortable to come and hear the life-giving truth of Jesus Christ – that God loves and cares for them, died for their sins, and wants an active relationship with them here and now and forever.

The families pledged to God and to one another to carry out God's vision. Through the subsequent years, Christ Church met at different locations as the vision of her ministry crystallized. Meanwhile, what was the status of that land from 1994? It was still for sale 10 years later. Through the oversight, investigation, and many prayers of talented men and women on various ministry teams, it became abundantly and unanimously clear that the Lord was calling Christ Church to this land He had preserved for all those years. Then, in March of 2005, God secured the land for Christ Church!

Furthermore, for the first time, Christ Church now has her own home at 2188 Executive Circle. We are grateful for how the Lord has blessed us. He remained faithful to Christ Church through trials and challenges. The perseverance and loyalty of good people have made possible what is now an actively growing fellowship that is ever on the rise in spirit, in truth, in grace, in love.
